Jack Pine Conference History
Gladwin's rivals are the Beaverton Beavers, located 8 miles away. This rivalry has gone on for many decades. Part of our rivalry is the battle over the co-mascot, Butch, a small terrier-type dog on wheels. The fight for Butch began in the 1930's, with Butch being able to "live" in the trophy case of the winner of the fall football game, and each of the two boys' basketball games. Currently, Butch is "visiting" Beaverton, as a result of their most recent basketball victory. Players show a remarkable attachment and respect for "Butch". The girls compete for the Cedar River Trophy.
