Last year, the Battle for the Bowl started between Gladwin High School and Clare High School. The Battle takes place the week both schools play each other in football with each school hosting a food drive. The school with the most food or personal hygiene items wins the traveling trophy. For the second year in a row, Gladwin High School won. This year, Gladwin brought in more than 5,000 items, and Clare had over 2,000. Each community's food pantry will receive the donation to help feed their own county. Gladwin Varsity football players delivered the donations the Monday after the game. Both schools more than doubled last year's drive. At the halftime of the Varsity football game, Principal Elizabeth Brown presented members of the student body the trophy. It will stay in the trophy case at GHS for another year.
