New Superintendent Search
BOE meeting overview: At last Monday's meeting the BOE held its organizational meeting during which many of the perfunctory office functions were approved. BOE officers were also elected. Chris Pellerito -President Brad Moore-Vice President Anne Edick-Treasure Brad Withrow-Secretary. The Board also set January 23rd at 7:00 pm for a special meeting to vote whether or not to move forward with a bond election allowing our community the opportunity to vote on a bond issue to build a new Junior High School. If approved, the bond election will occur on May 2nd. Other action items included 2 student readmittance hearings, a budget adjustment, approval to join the JUUL class action and the hiring of 3 coaches. During the Superintendents discussion, Rick discussed the process of gathering community input on the selection of Gladwin Community School's next superintendent. Here is your run down of this weeks Board of Education meeting. 1. The BOE approved spending approximately 2 million dollars from the general fund balance to lower the tax impact on citizens, if the bond election passes to construct a new Junior High. 2. Approved roof bids for the Intermediate school. 3. Approved window covering bids for all buildings. 4. Appointed Chris Pellerito to fill the vacancy created by Ms Hulme’s resignation. 5. Hired Michigan Leadership Institute to conduct a search for a new Superintendent pending Mr. Seebeck’s retirement. 6. Set the organizational meeting for January 9th. 7. Student expulsion meeting.

The temperature is cooperating and the roads are starting to look better. There will be a few icy spots on the gravel roads so be careful. We will start school today 2 hours later than usual. Monday’s school board workshop featured presentations from each of the building Principals on student achievement and plans for the future. The Superintendent also discussed : 1. Bids and costs for the replacement of window coverings and inter-school communication hardware in each of the schools. 2. The hiring of Michigan Leadership Institute to facilitate the search for a new Superintendent after Mr. Seebeck’s retirement. During the special meeting, the Board voted to seat Brad Moore for the remainder of the term vacated by resigning BOE member Kelly Gower and to hire Mike Mieske as an an assistant boys basketball coach.
